The Fifty-Eighth Annual Meeting of the Midwest Finance Association (MFA) will be held March 4-7, 2009
at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Chicago, Illinois. The meeting will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday
March 4, 2009 and conclude at noon on Saturday March 7th. Highlights of the program include:
- Opening Keynote Address by John McConnell, the Emanuel T. Weiler
Distinguished Professor of Management at Purdue University, Wednesday March 4th, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Keynote Address by Stephen Ross, the Franco Modigliani Professor of
Financial Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Thursday March 5th, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Keynote Address by Jonathan Karpoff, the Norman J. Metcalfe Endowed
Professor in Finance at University of Washington, Friday March 6th, 12:00-1:30 p.m.

State-of-industry address by Terry Duffy, Chairman, the CME Group, at the Jim Gentry Distinguished Financial Executive Presentation and membership meeting on Saturday March 7th, 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.
Program Participation:
The annual meetings of the MFA are designed to bring together academicians and practitioners to discuss the most recent developments in the field of finance. The meetings provide a forum for the presentation of new research and the discussion of current issues in the field. We extend you a cordial invitation to participate in or more of the following ways:
Research Paper Presentations: The program will include traditional research paper
presentations. Completed papers as well as detailed papers will be considered.
Special Sessions:These include roundtables, panel discussions, and invited presentations. The goal is to enhance the exchange of ideas between academicians and practitioners, and to provide a forum for the discussion of timely topics.
Program Committee Member: Program committee members evaluate the completed papers and abstracts submitted for presentation.
Session Chairperson or Discussant: MFA has traditionally enjoyed high levels of member participation as session chairs and discussants. We encourage you to support the association in this essential manner.
The submission deadline for paper presentations as well special sessions is September 12, 2008. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

Awards for Competitive Papers:
All papers accepted for presentation at the 2009 MFA meeting will be eligible to compete for one of the eight awards (of $1,000 each) in the areas of Corporate Finance, Investments, Behavioral Finance, Financial Institutions, International Finance, Risk management, Real Estate, and Asset Pricing.
PhD Candidate Support:
Doctoral students at qualifying schools are offered a 50% discount on conference registration fees. Additionally, 12 grants of $500 each will be awarded to the top authors of papers accepted for presentation at the conference. All candidate awards will be announced at the Gentry Breakfast.
Program Track Chairs
Track chairs receive the evaluation of presentation proposals from the Program Committee
members and design sessions based on their evaluations.
